What is Owari's Berbevis Berberine?
Owari Berbevis Berberine is a dietary supplement in capsule form made with Berbevis®, an extract from the root of Berberis aristata DC., combined with sunflower lecithin. Berberine is an alkaloid found in the roots and bark of several shrubs of the Berberis genus; in this product, it is derived from the root of Berberis aristata. Each capsule provides 300 mg of Berbevis®, including 84 mg of berberine, for a total of 600 mg of extract and 168 mg of berberine for the two capsules taken daily.
The daily dose is divided into two doses, one in the morning and one in the evening, each taken with a meal. This two-dose schedule fits easily into one of our pill organizers with separate compartments, which distinguish the morning capsule from the evening one.
It’s easier to stick to a schedule spread out over the day when each capsule has its own designated spot. For this, we recommend the Pilbox Basic 7-module pill organizer: seven one-day modules, each with a compartment for morning, noon, evening, and night. The evening capsule waits in its compartment; a compartment that remains full indicates a missed dose without the risk of taking a double dose; the built-in prescription holder keeps your treatment list with your capsules.

Precautions
- For adults only: not recommended for children or adolescents.
- Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
- Not recommended for people with diabetes or those with liver or heart conditions.
- Not recommended if you are taking medication, particularly medication with a narrow therapeutic index: do not begin taking this product without consulting your doctor or pharmacist.
- Berberine affects several liver enzymes (CYP3A4, CYP2D6, CYP2C9, CYP1A2) and P-glycoprotein, which are involved in the metabolism of many medications: it may reduce their effectiveness or increase their side effects. This particularly applies to cyclosporine and tacrolimus, digoxin, anticoagulants such as warfarin, metformin and other antidiabetic medications, losartan and verapamil, statins (simvastatin, atorvastatin), midazolam, tamoxifen, and certain anticancer drugs, as well as antibiotics in the macrolide class (azithromycin, clarithromycin).
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist that you are taking this supplement, as you would with any other dietary supplement. Avoid taking multiple dietary supplements at the same time.
- Do not combine with any other product containing berberine or a plant that contains it (other Berberis species, hydrastis, phellodendron).
- Digestive disturbances (diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea), headaches, dizziness, hypoglycemia, and a drop in blood pressure have been reported: if you experience any discomfort or symptoms that persist, stop taking the supplement and consult a doctor.
- Liver damage, heart rhythm disturbances, and allergic reactions have been reported: if you experience yellowing of the skin or eyes, an abnormally slow or irregular heartbeat, swelling of the face, or difficulty breathing, stop taking the product and seek medical attention immediately.
- Not recommended for individuals with G6PD deficiency.
- Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients (Berberis aristata extract, sunflower lecithin, coconut flour).
- Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
- A dietary supplement is not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet or a healthy lifestyle.
- Keep out of reach of young children.

Our expert advice on Owari’s Berbevis Berberine
The key point is to check before taking the first capsule. The list of medications mentioned under “Precautions” provides examples, not a complete list: just because a medication isn’t listed doesn’t mean it’s compatible. At the counter, we never answer the question “Can I take this with my current medications?” without a complete list of everything you’re taking: prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, herbal teas, and other supplements included.
Another common mistake is assuming the issue has been settled once and for all. A treatment may change, an antibiotic may be added for a few days, or a prescription may be renewed by another doctor: with every change, compatibility must be reassessed. Keep the product’s ingredients list with your prescription and show it to your doctor every time you get a new prescription. This also allows the doctor to link any unusual symptoms to this supplement.
