La solution injectable ne doit pas être utilisée en cas d'occlusion intestinale due à un blocage de l'intestin.

Les comprimés doivent être avalés avec un verre d'eau.
La solution injectable est administrée par voie intramusculaire.
Rarement : éruption cutanée.
Exceptionnellement : œdème de Quincke (solution injectable).
Apparition de boutons ou de plaques sur la peau. Ces lésions peuvent être dues à un aliment, à un médicament, et traduire une allergie ou un effet toxique. De nombreux virus peuvent également provoquer des éruptions de boutons : celles de la rubéole, de la roséole et de la rougeole sont les plus connues.
Injection d'un médicament dans un muscle, généralement au niveau de la fesse. L'effet du médicament, qui ne passe que progressivement dans le sang, est retardé mais prolongé. Une bonne désinfection préalable de la peau est nécessaire, car cette injection profonde expose à un risque d'abcès. La douleur due à la piqûre dépend surtout de la nature du produit utilisé. Cette voie d'administration est contre-indiquée chez les hémophiles et chez les personnes qui suivent un traitement anticoagulant, car elle expose alors à un risque d'hématome de la fesse.

Le lactose est un sucre que l'on retrouve dans le lait et certains de ses dérivés. Pour le digérer, l'intestin doit être capable de sécréter une enzyme appelée lactase. De nombreuses personnes perdent la capacité à produire cette lactase à l'âge adulte. Le lactose passe alors dans l'intestin sans avoir été digéré et sa présence provoque des troubles intestinaux : diarrhée, ballonnements, gaz, etc. Certains médicaments contiennent du lactose utilisé comme excipient (composant sans activité thérapeutique). Les personnes qui ne digèrent pas le lactose peuvent, lorsqu'elles prennent ce type de médicament, souffrir d'effets indésirables intestinaux.

Réaction allergique touchant généralement le visage. L'œdème de Quincke se traduit par un gonflement parfois spectaculaire. Les paupières sont souvent les premières touchées. Dans les rares cas où l'œdème touche la gorge, des troubles respiratoires peuvent survenir et un traitement urgent est nécessaire.
Substance indispensable à la croissance et au bon fonctionnement de l'organisme. Les besoins en vitamines sont normalement couverts par une alimentation variée. Dans les pays développés, seule la carence en vitamine D, chez le jeune enfant ou le vieillard peu exposés au soleil, justifie une supplémentation systématique. Un apport supérieur aux besoins, par des médicaments notamment, peut être à l'origine d'un surdosage et de troubles divers (vitamines A et D essentiellement).
