How to remove a splinter
To avoid any risk of infection, start by cleaning the wound using an antiseptic spray or soapy water (with a soap such as Marseille soap).
Use fine-edged tweezers. If they are too thick, they won't catch the splinter and may push it in. Disinfect the tweezers with antiseptic spray or 70° alcohol.
Grab the protruding end with the tweezers. Pull gently in the opposite direction to that of penetration, to avoid breaking it.
Once the splinter has been removed, disinfect again. Leave the wound open to the air, applying a bandage only if rubbing is painful. Keep an eye on the wound for a few days, as a small piece of the splinter may have remained under the skin. If you notice redness or pain around the wound, swelling or fever, contact your doctor, as this may be a sign of infection.
