What is the purpose of compression stockings and socks?
In cases of venous insufficiency, blood pools in the veins of the legs instead of flowing back to the heart. This dysfunction can cause heaviness in the limbs, varicose veins, or swelling. Compression stockings and socks work by applying pressure to the veins to help blood circulate normally, thereby relieving pain associated with poor venous circulation. There are many causes of these conditions, which can occur during hormonal changes such as pregnancy, or when standing for long periods of time.
