Use in bees
This extract from Ludovic Labeste's article is intended for anyone wishing to protect bees, so that they retain the strength to survive in the face of pesticides that weaken them and make them more susceptible to disease. I've carried out two major studies, one over 4 years and another over 2 years, with excellent results. I'm not doing this for the money, but to save the bee, which is imperative, otherwise mankind will suffer the consequences if this species disappears.
"Every spring I stimulate my swarms with 50% syrup, and I carried out a study with two hives fed with vitamin-enriched syrup versus one fed with syrup alone. Feeding lasted from the end of March to April 20, 2008, and the results were significant and surprising:
the first two hives fed syrup alone produced a total of 23 kilos and 25 kilos of honey this year on supers placed from
April 25, 2008, with 1-year-old queens.
the other two hives fed with vitamin syrup produced a total of 74 kilos for the first, and 86 kilos for the second, with queens of the same age.
with queens of the same age - unprecedented! Harvesting began on May 15 and lasted until August 1.
I also tested this technique on two of my hives whose queens had been replaced, one in April 2007, born towards the end of April, and the other born towards the end of May 2007. The results were positive: the first made 19 kg of honey in July, and the second 8 kg. These hives were fed vitamin syrup from the end of March to the end of May.
For vitamins, choose the preservative-free brands Biocatonic (Yotami), Total Vitaminol, Biocanina, for veterinary use.
The dose is as follows: one drop of Yotami vitamins per 0.750 ml jar of 50% syrup once a week. Autumn feeding from late August to September 29 was also carried out in this way.
The two high-performance hives received a total of 35 liters of 50% linden honey syrup or all-flower honey without using sugar, given the high harvest.
Vitamins prolong bee survival by at least 50% over the normal survival period, enabling them to participate in a new honeyflow, just as those who make rapeseed will then be able to make acacia honey without any problem, and then lime, and even all-flower summer honey for the most resistant.
On the two hives fed with vitamin syrup, the penultimate harvest was the best: 25 kilos for the first and 30 kilos for the second on July 9, and they received 3 stacked supers (the 1st was installed around April 25, the second a week later and the 3rd around May 15). It was only from July 15 onwards that I left a single superstructure until August 1, with another 7 kilos of sunflower in each superstructure at the last harvest, and the sunflower honeyflow lasted until August 10.
Vitamins should be kept refrigerated and protected from light. This is very important, since vitamins are very stable in the cold and dark. If the syrup is made in advance with vitamins, then the whole thing will also go into the fridge if it's not given to the bees straight away".
