The organic essential oil of damask rose has tranquilizing and sympatholytic properties by inhalation. It is astringent, hydrating, hemostatic and regenerating dry or flaky skin.
Among the many varieties of pale roses cultivated, the Damascus rose very probably results from a hybridization between the Rose of Provins (Rosa gallica) and oriental rosehips or Rosa centifolia. It was brought to Europe by the Crusaders and its essence has a reputation as a universal remedy.
