The mouth is full of pathogens: hundreds of millions of bacteria make up the oral flora. This can undergo imbalances after a physicochemical attack, which can lead to lesions of the mucous membranes of the oral cavity. Canker sores, herpes, oral cancer and oral candidiasis are, to varying degrees, diseases of the mouth with multiple causes.

Description ALODONT antiseptic mouthwash

Alodont mouthwash is recommended in the local adjunctive treatment of mouth infections or in care after surgery of the oral cavity.

Therapeutic indications

Adjunctive local treatment of infections of the oral cavity, and post-operative care in stomatology.

Dosage and advice for use ALODONT mouthwash

RESERVED FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN OVER 7 YEARS

Local use in mouthwashes.

Do not swallow.

In adults : 3 mouthwashes per day with pure product, keep the product in the mouth for one minute.
In children aged 7 to 12 : 3 mouthwashes per day with the product diluted 50% with water.

The treatment should not exceed 5 days without medical advice.
Contains alcohol.

Precautions for use ALODONT mouthwash

Contraindication : Hypersensitivity to one of the constituents of Alodont antiseptic mouthwash.
Special warnings: The indication does not justify a prolonged treatment with alodont, especially since it could expose to an imbalance of the normal microbial flora of the oral cavity with a risk of bacterial or fungal diffusion.

alodont®, solution for mouthwash, is a medicine whose original formula contains 3 active ingredients:

Cetylpyridinium chloride.
Chlorobutanol hemihydrate.
Eugenol.

Medicinal product not subject to medical prescription.

What advice to prevent infections of the oral cavity?

The best way to maintain healthy gums and teeth is to take care of them :

Brush your teeth with a soft brush at least twice a day and if possible after each meal.
Avoid overly aggressive brushing.
Floss once a day.
Have your dental plaque checked by your dental surgeon.
It is advisable to consult a dental surgeon regularly.

1. QUEST-CE QUE ALODONT, solution pour bain de bouche ET DANS QUELS CAS EST-IL UTILISE ?

Classe pharmacothérapeutique - code ATC : STOMATOLOGIE/TRAITEMENT LOCAL A VISEE ANTISEPTIQUE. (A: appareil digestif et métabolisme).

Ce médicament est un bain de bouche.

Il est préconisé dans le traitement local d'appoint des infections de la bouche ou en soins après une intervention chirurgicale de la cavité buccale.

2. QUELLES SONT LES INFORMATIONS A CONNAITRE AVANT DUTILISER ALODONT, solution pour bain de bouche ?

Nutilisez jamais Alodont, solution pour bain de bouche:

· si vous êtes allergique au chlorure de cétylpyridinium, au chlorobutanol hémihydraté, à leugénol ou à lun des autres composants contenus dans ce médicament, mentionnés dans la rubrique 6.

RESERVE A L'ADULTE ET A L'ENFANT DE PLUS DE 7 ANS.

Utilisation locale en bains de bouche.

Ne pas avaler.

La posologie recommandée est chez l'adulte de 3 bains de bouche par jour avec du produit pur, garder le produit une minute dans la bouche.

Veillez à toujours utiliser ce médicament en suivant exactement les indications de votre médecin ou pharmacien. Vérifiez auprès de votre médecin ou pharmacien en cas de doute.

Utilisation chez les enfants et les adolescents

Chez l'enfant de 7 à 12 ans: 3 bains de bouche par jour avec du produit dilué à 50 % avec de l'eau.

Durée du traitement

Le traitement ne devra pas dépasser 5 jours sans avis médical.

Un surdosage n'est pas attendu dans les conditions normales d'utilisation. Certains constituants de ce médicament (huiles essentielles) peuvent entraîner à doses excessives, des accidents neurologiques à type de convulsions chez l'enfant.

En cas d'épilepsie ancienne ou récente, demandez l'avis de votre médecin.

4. QUELS SONT LES EFFETS INDESIRABLES EVENTUELS ?

Comme tous les médicaments, ce médicament peut provoquer des effets indésirables, mais ils ne surviennent pas systématiquement chez tout le monde.

Comme tous les médicaments, ALODONT, solution pour bain de bouche est susceptible d'avoir des effets indésirables, bien que tout le monde n'y soit pas sujet: En raison de la présence de dérivés terpéniques et en cas de non-respect des doses préconisées:

· risque de convulsions chez le nourrisson et chez l'enfant,

· possibilité d'agitation et de confusion chez les sujets âgés.

Très rarement les effets indésirables suivants ont été rapportés: irritation de la bouche et réaction allergique systémique.

5. COMMENT CONSERVER ALODONT, solution pour bain de bouche ?

Tenir ce médicament hors de la vue et de la portée des enfants.

Nutilisez pas ce médicament après la date de péremption indiquée sur lemballage et le flacon. La date de péremption fait référence au dernier jour de ce mois.

Ne jetez aucun médicament au tout-à-légout ou avec les ordures ménagères. Demandez à votre pharmacien déliminer les médicaments que vous nutilisez plus. Ces mesures contribueront à protéger lenvironnement.

This mouthwash solution contains antiseptic substances.
It is used in the treatment of infections of the mouth or after an operation of the teeth or the gums.

CONTRAINDICATIONS ^(summary)

This medication should not be used in children less than 7 years of age.

WARNING ^(Contents)

This medicinal product contains terpenes (essential oils of mint in excipients) which, if the dosage is exceeded, can cause serious adverse effects: adhere to recommended doses, especially in children or in cases of epilepsy .
Prolonged use of local antiseptic treatments ( gargle , mouthwash , lozenge) is undesirable; it can alter the natural microbial balance of the throat.
If there is no improvement after 5 days, consult a doctor if you develop a fever.

DRUG INTERACTIONS ^(summary)

It is generally unnecessary to combine different antiseptics . These can be contained in many products available in self-medication: tablet, mouthwash and nasal solution; Consult your pharmacist.

PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING ^(summary)

The effect of this medication during pregnancy or lactation is not well known. The assessment of the possible risk associated with its use is individual: ask your pharmacist or doctor for advice.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE ^(summary)

The solution is used pure in adults and diluted in half in children.
It should be kept for a minute in the mouth before being spit out. It should not be swallowed.

Usual dosage:

Adult: 1 mouthwash with the contents of the cup, 3 times a day.
Children over 7 years: 1 mouthwash with a measuring cup filled half solution and supplemented with water, 3 times a day.

TIPS ^(summary)

It is generally advised not to eat or drink immediately after a mouthwash , in order to allow the active substances to act.
Some dentists and stomatologists recommend that mouthwashing should not be performed within hours of tooth extraction to avoid bleeding the wound.

POSSIBLE ADVERSE EFFECTS ^(summary)

Very rarely: irritation of the mouth, allergic reaction .
Due to the presence of terpenes (essential oil of mint) and in case of exceeding the usual dosage : risk of convulsions in the child and agitation and confusion in the elderly.

GLOSSARY ^(summary)

antiseptic
A substance that locally destroys bacteria, reducing their numbers and preventing their proliferation. Some antiseptics are also active on microscopic fungi and viruses.

mouthwash
A local treatment method which consists in leaving on the contact of lesions of the mouth or the gums a medicine pure or diluted in cold or lukewarm water.

mouthwash
Medication that acts by contact on the throat and internal walls of the mouth. It is administered by spraying or brushing.

convulsions
Involuntary contractions limited to a few muscles or generalized to the whole body. They are due to excessive pain or stimulation of the brain: fever, poisoning, lack of oxygen, brain damage. Convulsions may be due to an epileptic seizure or high fever in young children.

epilepsy
A chronic seizure disorder associated with abnormal electrical activity of a group of brain cells. Its manifestations, varying in intensity, range from the sudden drop in attention (absences, or small evil) to loss of consciousness accompanied by abnormal muscle movements (convulsions, or great evil). Partial epilepsy, as its name implies, does not concern the whole body: the jerky movements only touch one or more muscle groups.

gargle
A method of local treatment which aims to leave in contact with the throat a drug pure or diluted in cold or lukewarm water. The head is tilted backwards, a continuous exhalation preventing the liquid from descending into the lungs. The solution used must not be swallowed.

Quantity and distribution of the dose of a drug according to the age, weight and general condition of the patient.

allergic reaction
Reaction due to hypersensitivity of the organism to a drug. Allergic reactions can take a wide variety of aspects: urticaria, angioedema, eczema, eruption of pimples resembling measles, etc. Anaphylactic shock is a generalized allergic reaction that causes discomfort due to a sudden drop in blood pressure.

terpenes
A general term for aromatic substances of vegetable origin. These are traditionally used for their respiratory properties (stimulating, expectorant, antiseptic) and their revulsive power when applied to the skin. The most used are camphor, menthol, eucalyptol, essential oils of mint, turpentine, niaouli, pine, anise, etc.
Some terpenes, and especially camphor, have been responsible for convulsions, respiratory pauses in the infant, in case of overdose. They can also cause behavioral problems in the elderly. These products should be used with caution at the extreme ages of life.
