Description

Microlax Macrogol 5.9 g powder for oral solution, is a drug (mild laxative) indicated for the treatment of occasional constipation in adults. It increases the amount of liquid in your intestine, which makes stools softer and easier to remove feces. It also contains minerals to compensate those that your body removes during treatment.



Composition:

  • Macrogol 3550: 5.9 g sachet
  • Excipients: sodium chloride, anhydrous sodium sulfate, potassium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, sodium saccharin, colloidal anhydrous silica, lemon flavor (including maltodextrin, gum arabic (acacia) and ascorbic acid), mango flavor (including maltodextrin, propylene glycol , gum arabic (acacia)).
  • Excipients with known effect: xhaque sachet contains 274 mg of sodium and 39 mg of potassium


Dosage and administration:

  • Adult over 18 years and elderly.
  • The usual dosage is 1 to 2 sachets per day taken at once, preferably in the morning.
  • The average dose is 1 sachet per day.
  • It has only to be taken over a short period.
  • The effect of this drug occurs within 24 to 48 hours after dosing.
  • Dissolve the contents of one sachet into a glass of water (about 100 ml). Once the contents of the sachet dissolved, take this medication immediately.
  • The dose may be increased to 2 sachets per day, but wait 24 to 48 h before increasing the dose.
  • Do not take this medicine more than 2 weeks unless your doctor has advised you not.


Cons-indications:

  • If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the components,
  • If you have a bowel obstruction,
  • If you have an intestinal perforation, if you have an inflammatory bowel disease colitis such as colitis, Crohn's disease,
  • If you have a toxic megacolon (dilation of the colon making it impossible to expel gas and stool)
  • If you have paralytic ileus (intestinal paralysis of muscles)
  • If you have pain in your belly undetermined cause,
  • If you have nausea or vomiting,
  • If you suffer from severe hemorrhoidal pain,
  • If you suffer from severe dehydration.
  • In case of doubt, it is essential to seek the advice of your doctor or pharmacist.


Precautions:

  • It treats your constipation but you must enrich your diet vegetable fiber and drink. It is also advised to practice regular physical activity.
  • If you use this medication for the first time and you do not get better within 2 weeks of treatment, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Each sachet contains 274 mg of sodium. In case of a controlled sodium diet, ask your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • Each bag contains approximately 39 mg of potassium. In patients with renal insufficiency or controlled potassium diet, ask your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • This medication contains polyethylene glycol (also called macrogol). Rare manifestations of allergic and exceptional cases of anaphylactic shock have been reported with high doses of polyethylene glycol used in preparations of colonic investigation.
  • Drug therapy should be considered only if the hygienic-dietary treatment alone was ineffective.
  • Taking or using other medicines:   If you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Like any other laxative, it is possible that the absorption of other drugs is reduced temporarily while using this medication.
  • Pregnancy - Lactation:   If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
  • Driving and using machines:   No effects on ability to drive and use machines have been observed.
  • Possible side effects:  Like all medicines, macrogol Microlax 5.9 g powder for oral solution may have side effects, although not everybody will not matter. If you experience any of the effects listed below, stop treatment and consult your doctor:
    • allergic reactions including wheezing, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat
    • allergic reactions including rash, urticaria, pruritus,
  • too high doses can lead to diarrhea of light intensity or liquid stools. Loose stools and diarrhea may persist for 24 to 48 hours but usually resolve in continuing the treatment at a lower dose,
  • pain or abdominal discomfort.
  • If you experience any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Conservation:   Keep out of reach and sight of children. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the carton and sachet.

INDICATIONS (summary)
This medicine contains an osmotic laxative . It attracts water into the intestine and increases stool volume.
It is used in the symptomatic treatment of constipation in adults.
CONTRAINDICATIONS (summary)
This medication should not be used in the following cases:
  • inflammatory bowel disease ( ulcerative colitis , Crohn 's disease ),
  • intestinal occlusion or condition predisposing to occlusion,
  • risk of intestinal perforation,
  • abdominal pain of unknown cause, intestinal cramps, hemorrhoidal attack, dehydration.
WARNING (Contents)

PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING (summary)

DIRECTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE (summary)
The contents of the sachet must be diluted in a glass of water (100 ml).
The laxative effect occurs 24 to 48 hours after taking the medication.

1. WHAT IS MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR?

MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution is a mild laxative used in the treatment of occasional constipation in adults.

MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution increases the amount of fluid in your intestine, making the stools softer and easier to remove. It also contains mineral salts to compensate for those that your body eliminates during your treatment.

2. BEFORE YOU TAKE MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g powder for oral solution?

Do not take MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution:

· if you are allergic to macrogol or to any of the other ingredients of this medication mentioned in section 6.

· If you have an intestinal obstruction;

· If you have an intestinal perforation;

· If you have an inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease;

· If you have a toxic megacolon (dilation of your colon making it impossible to expel gas and stool);

· If you have a paralytic ileus (paralysis of the intestinal muscles);

· If you have pain in your belly of undetermined cause;

· If you have nausea or vomiting;

· If you suffer from severe hemorrhoid pain;

· If you suffer from severe dehydration.

If in doubt, it is essential to seek the advice of your doctor or pharmacist.

Warnings and Precautions

· MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution treats your constipation but you must enrich your diet of vegetable fibers and drinks. It is also advisable to practice regular physical activity.

· Stop treatment and see a doctor if symptoms persist or worsen, or in case of painful transit, black stools or blood in the stool, fecal incontinence, unexplained weight loss, nausea, vomiting or fever.

· In case of diarrhea, be vigilant if you are subject to electrolyte disorders (eg elderly or patients with impaired liver function or renal function, patients taking diuretics to control their blood pressure).

· Each sachet contains approximately 274 mg of sodium. If you have a sodium-controlled diet, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medication.

· Each sachet contains approximately 39 mg of potassium. If you have kidney failure or a potassium diet, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.

· This medicine contains polyethylene glycol (also called macrogol). Very rare (less than 1 in 10,000 patients) allergic and anaphylactic reactions (sudden and potentially fatal allergies) have been reported with high doses of polyethylene glycol, used in colonic preparations.

· Drug treatment should only be considered if the hygiene-dietetic treatment alone has proved ineffective.

Other medicines and MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution

Talk to your doctor before taking this medication if you are taking digoxin (used to treat heart failure and heart rhythm disorders).

If you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Like any other laxative, it is possible that the absorption of other medicines is reduced transiently during the use of this drug.

MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g Powder for oral solution should be used with antiepileptics and immunosuppressants.

MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution with food and beverages

This medicine may be taken with or without food.

Pregnancy and breast feeding

If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Driving and using machines

No effects on the ability to drive and use machines have been observed.

MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution contains:

· sodium (about 274 mg per sachet).

· potassium (about 39 mg per sachet).

3. HOW TO TAKE MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution?

Always take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if in doubt.

MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution should only be taken over a short period of time, not more than 7 days.

The effect of MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution is manifested within 24 to 48 h after setting.

Adult over 18 years old and elderly.

The usual dose is 1 to 2 sachets per day to be taken at one time, preferably in the morning. The average dose is 1 sachet per day.

· Dissolve the contents of a sachet of MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution in a glass of water (about 100 ml). Once the contents of the sachet have been dissolved, take this medicine immediately.

· Drink once a day preferably in the morning.

· The dose can be increased to 2 sachets per day but wait 24 to 48 hours before increasing the dose.

· Do not take MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution for more than 7 days, unless your doctor has advised you (see section 2 "Warnings and Precautions").

If you take more MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution you should not have

If you forget to take MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution

MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution should be taken at one time, preferably in the morning. You can take it later in the day if you forgot to take it, but in this case the next dose should be taken at the same time the following days.

Do not take a double dose to make up for the single dose you have forgotten to take.

4. WHAT ARE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS?

Like all medicines, MICROLAX MACROGOL 5.9 g, powder for oral solution is liable to have undesirable effects, although not everyone is subject to it.

Very rare (less than 1 patient in 10000)

· Severe allergic reactions including unexplained whistling, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat.

· Allergic reactions including rash, hives, pruritus.

If you experience any of the above effects, stop treatment and see your doctor immediately, or go immediately to the nearest hospital emergency department, taking this leaflet with you.

Very common (more than 1 patient in 10)

Excessive doses may lead to mild diarrhea or liquid stools.

Liquid stools and diarrhea can persist for 24 to 48 hours but usually disappear by continuing treatment at a lower dose.

Common (less than 1 in 10 patients)

Abdominal pain or abdominal pain.
