External use

Although transcutaneous absorption of chlorhexidine is very low, the risk of systemic effects can not be excluded. They are all the more to be feared that the antiseptic is used on a large area, on damaged skin (especially burned) a mucosa, skin or premature infant, (due to the surface / weight and the occlusion effect layers at headquarters).

The use of chlorhexidine solutions, alcoholic or aqueous, for antisepsis of the skin before an invasive procedure was associated with chemical burns in newborns. Based on the published literature and reported cases, this risk appears to be higher in preterm children, especially those born before 32 weeks of gestation and in the first two weeks of life.

Remove all materials, blouses soaked or surgical field prior to the intervention. Do not use excessive amounts and not leave the solution in the folds of the skin or the patient or the sheets or other materials in direct contact with the patient. When occlusive dressings are used on areas previously exposed to PLUREXID 1.5%, every precaution must be taken to ensure that there is no surplus product before applying the dressing.

Upon opening the packaging of a preparation referred antiseptic, microbial contamination is possible.
