Sore throat is a fairly common symptom that can have several origins. In most cases, it is pharyngitis, that is to say an overall inflammation of the pharynx (the mucosa located at the crossroads of the mouth and digestive tract), often of viral origin. A sore throat can also be caused by red or white sore throat, which is an acute infection of the tonsils. It can be of viral or, more rarely, bacterial origin (10 to 25% of cases in adults, 25 to 40% in children over 3 years old).
