Our advice and opinions from pharmacy experts

Nasal congestion (stuffy nose) is caused by local inflammation or irritation, which causes the air passage in the nose to tighten.
When accompanied by a cold, sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses, cavities of certain bones of the face where we find the mucous membranes which are used to humidify the air), allergic rhinitis or mechanical blockage, nasal congestion may indicate the presence of an infection, allergy, or nasal obstruction.
