Our advice and advice from pharmacy experts

The veins in the anal region dilate slightly during defecation. When these veins remain permanently dilated, they become hemorrhoids. If these hemorrhoids become painful, itchy and/or bleed, then it is called a hemorrhoidal crisis.
Difficult to predict, the hemorrhoid crisis is generally linked to temporary irritation of the anal canal. We can cite as quite frequent causes:

  • A significant episode of diarrhea which increases the solicitation of the anal canal by increasing the number of bowel movements...
  • But also a marked constipation since the efforts of pushing are also favorable to the hemorrhoidal disease.
  • A meal that is too rich, especially in alcohol and/or spicy dishes, which have an irritating and vasodilating effect.
  • Sustained physical activity (carrying heavy loads, cycling or horseback riding for several hours, for example).

LEXICON (summary)

NSAIDs
Abbreviation for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Family of anti-inflammatory drugs that are not derived from cortisone (steroids), and the best known is aspirin.

analgesic
Drug that acts against pain. Analgesics act either directly on the centers of pain located in the brain, or by blocking the transmission of pain to the brain.
Synonym: analgesic.

anticoagulant
A drug that prevents blood from clotting and prevents clots from forming in the blood vessels.
Anticoagulants are used to treat or prevent phlebitis, pulmonary embolism, certain infarcts. They also help prevent clots in the heart during rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation or in case of artificial heart valve.
There are two main types of anticoagulants:
  • oral anticoagulants, which block the action of vitamin K (antivitamin K, or AVK) and whose effectiveness is controlled by a blood test: the INR (formerly TP);
  • injectable anticoagulants, derived from heparin, the effectiveness of which can be controlled by the blood test of the anti-Xa activity, the Howell's Time (TH) or the Kaolin Cephalin Time (TCK) depending on the products used. Regular dosing of blood platelets is necessary throughout the duration of use of a heparin derivative.

epilepsy
Chronic disease occurring by seizures, related to an abnormal electrical activity of a group of brain cells. Its manifestations, of variable intensity, range from the sudden fall of attention (absences, or small harm) to loss of consciousness accompanied by abnormal muscle movements (convulsions, or great harm). Partial epilepsy, as its name indicates, does not concern the whole body: the jerky movements affect only one or more muscle groups.

bleeding
Loss of blood from an artery or vein. Hemorrhage can be external, but also internal and go unnoticed.

hemorrhoids
Abnormal dilatation of a vein of the anus or rectum developing either outside or inside. It can cause bleeding.

thyroid hormones
Family of metabolizing accelerating hormones, secreted by the thyroid gland. They are measurable in the blood and are called T3 and T4.

high blood pressure
Excess pressure (tension) of the blood in the arteries. This pressure is provided by the heart and is expressed by two numbers. It is maximal during the contraction of the heart, or systole (first digit), and minimum during the cardiac rest, or diastole (second digit). Hypertension is characterized by a maximum (systolic) pressure greater than or equal to 16, or a minimum (diastolic) pressure greater than or equal to 9.5. Treatment is initiated when these numbers are exceeded or for lower voltages in some people with cardiovascular risk factors: heredity, smoking, diabetes, excess cholesterol. Permanent antihypertensive therapy can reduce the damage to the heart and blood vessels caused by high blood pressure.

MAOIs
Abbreviation of monoamine oxidase inhibitor. Family of drugs used in psychiatry and neurology (depression, Parkinson's disease). These drugs are divided into two types: non-selective MAOIs, which are incompatible with many drugs and even certain foods, and selective MAOIs (A or B), for which these drawbacks are absent or limited.

impatience
Difficult sensations localized in the legs. They manifest themselves, usually at bedtime, by a feeling of discomfort, an irrepressible need to move the legs.

venous insufficiency
Inability of leg veins to raise blood to the heart.

lymphatic
Regarding the lymph, a colorless liquid circulating in specific vessels and whose accumulation causes edema.

phlebitis
Inflammation of a deep vein with formation of a blood clot, usually affecting the legs. The severity of the phlebitis is related to the possibility of a clot displacement that can migrate to the heart and then come to obstruct an artery of the lungs (pulmonary embolism). Paraphlebitis, or superficial phlebitis, is the inflammation of a superficial vein; it is much less worrying.

anti-doping tests
Athletes may be tested for the presence of doping substances or their derivatives in their urine. The International Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Health and Sports maintain a list of substances considered to be doping. These substances are very varied: anabolic hormones that develop muscles, stimulants that increase alertness, betablockers that slow down the heart and, for example, allow archers to shoot their arrow between heartbeats and so on. Some drugs, such as creams, ear drops, contain substances considered to be doping, but the probability of these substances passing into the blood and being found in the urine is very low. When in doubt, the possibility of a positive reaction is mentioned for each drug when a dopant substance is present in its composition. It is up to the athlete to decide with his doctor whether or not he can use such a medicine.

symptomatic treatment
Treatment that suppresses or alleviates the symptoms of a disease without attacking its cause.

capillary vessels
Blood vessels finer than hair (hence their name) that irrigate cells.

vascular
Regarding the blood vessels: arteries and veins.

veinotonic
Refers to a medicine that has the property of increasing the tone of the wall.
