advice

  • Against alopecia, first a balanced diet : To fight against hyperseborrhea, it is also important to eat a balanced diet and to avoid as much excess as too fatty, salty or sweet as possible. In particular, the consumption of certain high-fat dairy products must be limited.
  • Against alopecia: regular massage of the scalp : A cranial massage activates the blood circulation, which helps the nutrients to be absorbed by the scalp, thus allowing the hair to be healthy. Its action also makes the scalp fat sometimes compact and solid, more liquid: the pores of the scalp are then released and the hair can "revive".
  • “Magic” shampoos against alopecia : Turn therefore to natural, soft and effective products for the care of your hair. Chili (chile) and cactus (zabila) shampoos are particularly effective in combating hyperseborrhea.
  • Panthenol or provitamin B5 helps fight alopecia : Used in many cosmetics, panthenol or vitamin B5 promotes skin regeneration but it is also effective - especially in spray - to give strength and vitality to the hair.

Health Education Advice

a / What is an androgenetic alopecia?

Normally the hair has a lifetime of 3 to 6 years and it drops 50 to 100 hair per day.

A greater fall in hair may occur seasonally (in the fall) or after delivery: this fall is normal, transient and there is no need to start treatment. Alopecia is defined as hair loss greater than 100 hairs per day.

There are two types of alopecia:

· acute alopecia,

· chronic alopecia.

Acute alopecia (sudden hair loss over a short period of time) may be diffuse or patchy (alopecia areata) and are most often of known cause (aggressive hair care, poor general condition, poorly balanced weight loss, psychic, stress ...).

These acute alopecia should not be treated with this medication.

Chronic (long-term) alopecia are almost always diffuse.

They are sometimes due to a specific disease (thyroid, metabolic ...) and they should not be treated with this drug.

In the vast majority, these chronic alopecia are of poorly known origin, usually of hereditary nature: it is androgenetic alopecia. Only this type of alopecia can be treated with minoxidil.

b / How to recognize androgenetic alopecia in male adult subjects?

Androgenetic alopecia begins with a dislocation of the temporal gulfs. Then a slight tonsure appears at the top of the skull. These two hairless areas will gradually increase: the androgenetic alopecia is gradually evolving towards baldness.

c / Some tips for use

Use a slightly aggressive shampoo (preferably without silicone).

If you do your shampoo after the application of minoxidil, respect a period of 4 hours after this.

If you apply minoxidil after shampooing, it is recommended to do it on a dry scalp. You can use a hair dryer after applying minoxidil preferably in warm position.

You can use styling foams, gels or sprays within a minimum of 1 hour between applications.

There is no interaction between your treatment with minoxidil and your permanent or coloring care but it is better to limit them because of their aggressiveness on the hair.

If you plan to expose yourself to the sun after applying minoxidil, it is recommended to cover your hair.

d / Some additional information

At the beginning of treatment, over a short period, it is possible that an increase in hair loss occurs. These hair were destined to fall and do it more quickly. This is a normal phenomenon, continue treatment.

The first hair that grows will be soft, fluffy and not very visible. As you continue your treatment, they can change and thicken.

GLOSSARY (summary)

allergy
Skin reaction (itching, pimples, swelling) or general discomfort occurring after contact with a particular substance, use of a medication or ingestion of food. The main forms of allergy are eczema, urticaria, asthma, angioedema and allergic shock (anaphylactic shock). Food allergy can also result in digestive disorders.

alopecia
General or partial fall of the hair or hair.

hepatitis
Inflammation of the liver. It may be due to a drug, a virus, alcohol or some other cause.
Viral hepatitis usually heals without treatment. Unlike hepatitis A and E almost always benign, hepatitis B and C can become chronic: the virus persists in the patient's body which remains contagious but does not necessarily suffer from liver problems. Chronic hepatitis is said to be active when the virus continues to destroy liver cells, resulting in increased transaminases in the blood.

high blood pressure
Excess blood pressure (tension) in the arteries. This pressure is provided by the heart and is expressed by two digits. It is maximal during contraction of the heart, or systole (first digit), and minimal during cardiac rest, or diastole (second digit). High blood pressure is characterized by a maximum (systolic) pressure greater than or equal to 16, or a minimum (diastolic) pressure greater than or equal to 9.5. Treatment is initiated when these numbers are exceeded or for lower blood pressure in some people with cardiovascular risk factors: heredity, smoking, diabetes, excess cholesterol. Permanent antihypertensive therapy reduces damage to the heart and blood vessels due to high blood pressure.

mucous
Tissue (membrane) that lines the cavities and ducts of the body communicating with the outside (digestive tract, respiratory tract, urinary tract, etc.).

neuritis
Lesion of a nerve that can be due to diseases or various causes: diabetes, alcoholism, poisoning, drugs. When several nerves are affected, the term polyneuritis is used. Some drugs can damage the optic nerve (optic neuritis) and cause vision problems.

edema
Accumulation of water or lymph causing localized swelling.

vasodilator
Medication capable of dilating the blood vessels (artery, vein), as opposed to vasoconstrictor.

dizziness
Symptom that can mean an impression of loss of balance (common sense) or, more strictly, a sense of rotation on oneself or the environment (medical sense).

way
  • Pathway (route of administration) used to administer drugs: oral, sublingual, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, intradermal, transdermal.
  • Set of hollow organs allowing the passage of air (airways), food (digestive tract), urine (urinary tract), bile (bile ducts), etc.
