Reserved for adults and children over 12 years old

Composition of this drug

  • Sodium alginate 500 mg, sodium bicarbonate 267 mg for one sachet.
  • Excipients: calcium carbonate, carbomer (974P), sodium saccharin, sodium hydroxide, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 216), purified water, natural mint flavor.
  • Excipients with known effect: sodium salts, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216).

Dosage

  • 1 sachet 3 times a day after the main meals and possibly in the evening at bedtime.

Therapeutic indications

GAVISCONELL MENTHE WITHOUT SUGAR is indicated in heartburn, acid reflux or referral (heartburn) and heartburn.

These symptoms may, for example, occur after meals or during pregnancy, or during inflammation of the esophagus.

Precautions for use; special warnings

Warnings and Precautions

In the absence of symptom improvement after seven days, the clinical situation should be reconsidered.

This medicine contains propyl parahydroxybenzoate and methyl parahydroxybenzoate and may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).

Please consult your doctor before taking this medication if you have been asked to follow a diet low in sodium especially if you suffer from heart failure.

This medicine contains sodium. This medicine contains 145 mg sodium per sachet (6.3 mmol per sachet). To be taken into account in patients controlling their sodium dietary intake.

This medicine contains calcium: Each sachet contains 160 mg of calcium carbonate (1.6 mmol per 10 ml). Precautions should be taken in patients suffering from or having suffered from severe renal disease.

IN CASE OF DOUBT DO NOT HESITATE TO REQUEST THE NOTICE OF YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST.

Dosage

Adults, including elderly, and children over 12 years: 1 sachet 3 times a day, after the 3 main meals and eventually the evening at bedtime.

This dosage may be doubled in severe oesophageal reflux or inflammation.

Children under 12 years of age : only on medical advice.

Elderly : No dose adjustment is required for this population.

Patients with hepatic impairment : no dose adjustment required

Patients suffering from kidney failure : a precaution is required in case of strict salt-free diet

Method and route of administration

Oral use.

Mix well before opening.

Frequency of Administration

This medication should be taken after meals.

Duration of treatment

Expiration date

INDICATIONS (summary)
This medication belongs to the local antacid family. It forms a viscous gel that floats in the stomach and protects the esophagus in the event of reflux of the contents of the stomach.
It is used in the treatment of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn, acid rises).
WARNING (Contents)
Do not use this medication more than 7 days without the advice of your doctor: tests may be necessary if symptoms persist.
It is best to consult a doctor in the following situations:
  • digestive disorders appearing for the first time, or if disorders have changed recently;
  • disorders associated with weight loss;
  • difficulty swallowing or persistent abdominal discomfort.
Precautions are necessary in case of excess calcium in the blood or kidney stone.
People with stomach pain should avoid using drugs containing aspirin or NSAIDs that weaken the lining of the stomach. Paracetamol, on the other hand, is safe to treat pain or fever.
This drug contains salt ( sodium ) in significant quantities.
DRUG INTERACTIONS (summary)
This drug may decrease the absorption of many drugs. A delay of at least 2 hours (or even 4 hours with antibiotics of the quinolone family) must be observed between taking this drug and that of other treatments. Ask your doctor or pharmacist.
PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING (summary)
This medicine contains only presumed safe substances during pregnancy or lactation. However, do not use it prolonged without the advice of your pharmacist or doctor.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE (summary)
This medication should be taken after meals and possibly at bedtime.
Mix well before opening.

Usual dosage:

  • Adult and child over 12 years: 1 to 2 sachets, 3 times a day.
TIPS (summary)
In case of gastroesophageal reflux, it is good to split the meals, avoid the leaning position, avoid lying down after meals and not to wear too tight clothing. The elevation of the head of the bed is recommended.
If you are a smoker, continuing smoking is an important barrier to treatment; nicotine increases gastric acidity and reduces the effectiveness of the muscle that closes the junction between the esophagus and the stomach.
This medicinal product may be freely available in certain pharmacies; nevertheless, do not hesitate to ask your pharmacist for advice.
