White chestnut or "white chestnut" is referred to under the scientific name Aesculus hippocastanum. In French, this tree has many names such as false chestnut, sea chestnut, common chestnut or even horse chestnut. This last name is misleading, because the white chestnut tree is not at all native to India: it would rather come from the Macedonian mountains.
Nowadays, you can easily find it in France, especially in the Mediterranean and oceanic regions. It is often planted in municipal parks, squares, gardens or even schoolyards.
