Our Pharmacy expert advice
5 types of foods to choose for your breastfeeding
During your breastfeeding, no food is forbidden. You can eat everything (avoid consuming sugary or too salty which have no nutritional value), but always in moderation. Consuming too much fruit or cabbage may cause intestinal problems, diarrhea or bloating in your baby.
In short, your typical day includes:
At least 5 fruits and vegetables
Vitamins and trace elements, it will be for you and your baby: the fruits and vegetables you bring them.
Bread or cereal or pasta or rice or potatoes at every meal, meat or fish daily quality
Iron is one of the constituents of the red blood cells. Anaemia or iron deficiency is responsible for a great fatigue and makes you more susceptible to infections. As your baby has not yet formed its own stock of iron, it is in yours it will tap to form its own blood supply.
So not to be anemic and have an iron constitution, think about eating red meat, or black pudding or egg yolks, but know that you'll find in in legumes (lentils, beans ...) and Whole grains.
Fundamental in the development of your baby's brain and also in maintaining your nervous and mental balance (their presence in breast milk decrease the rates of postpartum depression), essential fatty acids, omega 3, have the distinction not being able to be synthesized by the body. So in the diet you will need to pick them by eating fatty fish (salmon, herring, sardines, mackerel) and oils (canola, walnut, soybean).
4 dairy products per day
Calcium intake is important because it is essential for your baby develops his skeleton and musculature. In addition, it allows you to make up your own calcium losses, generated by the production of milk.
You'll find it in yogurt, milk or cheese. Do not overlook the butter on your toast for breakfast. It is a source of vitamin A, a highly antioxidant vitamin and playing a role in several body functions (vision, bone growth, healthy skin ...).
Meat, eggs or fish 1-2 times daily (not to favor fatty fish for omega 3).
Profits and optimal duration of exclusive breastfeeding
Exclusive breastfeeding is the most appropriate feeding method for infants up to six months. It ensures a optimal growth and development.
Exclusive breastfeeding protects newborn gastrointestinal infections and, to a lesser extent, infections
ENT and respiratory. The protective effect of breastfeeding depends on its duration and its exclusivity.
The pursuit of exclusive breastfeeding for six months over a period of three to four months allows development
optimal infant and should be encouraged (grade B). However, some mothers can not follow this
recommendation or decide not to.
The introduction of complementary feeding between 4 and 6 months offers no particular benefit (grade B).
