    News Scientists January 2014

By Marie Bangratz (Project Search Larena Health)

Mucuna (Mucuna pruriens) is a very popular herb used in traditional Indian medicine. This climbing plant cultivated in southern China and eastern India, has different properties: analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-neoplastic, anti-epileptic and anti-microbial.
Mucuna is rich in micronutrients (amino acids, zinc, selenium) in alkaloids and contains L-DOPA, dopamine precursor amino [Misra and Wagner acid; Phytother Res; 2004].

Traditionally used as a tonic and aphrodisiac, Mucuna seeds also showed a neuroprotective [et al Manyam effect. Biophys; 2004].

A study published in 2013 illustrates this effect in a mouse model of Parkinson's disease, a neurodegenerative disease characterized by dysregulation of the dopaminergic [Yadav et al system; Neurochem Interna; 2013]. Yadav and colleagues studied mice, the effects of supplementation with mucuna seed extract (100 mg / kg body weight). The animal model used, induced by peritoneal injection of paraquat (pesticide, PQ), is considered one of the best models of Parkinson's disease because it mimics a slow progression of the disease, similar to that observed in humans .
Three usually modified in Parkinson's disease parameters were analyzed: motor function, oxidative stress and tyrosine hydroxylase activity (TH, the enzyme that converts dopamine LDOPA).
The results show that the Mucuna:

    • Reduction improves motor function induced by paraquat, particularly as evidenced by a reduction in stride mice.
    • Decreases oxidative stress induced in the animal model versus control.
    • Helps restore tyrosine hydroxylase activity indicating an increased presence of dopaminergic neurons.

The results of this study, conducted in mice that mimic Parkinson's disease, thus highlight the interest of the Mucuna supplementation to limit the impact of the disease but also the engine level cell (oxidative stress and enzyme activity ). Other conditions such as depression with dopamine deficiency could also be targets for the use of this plant.

What is the difference between the EPS (PhytoPrevent) and the SIPF (Synergia)?

    11/02/2014 Medicinal Plants and Phytotherapy

In order to quickly explain the difference between these two types of fresh medicinal plants extracts, we will first see the S.I.P.F. method, then to highlight the 2 final and original steps of the E.P.S. process. : the leaching where alcohol is added to the cryobrilled plant mixture, gradually increasing the alcoholic degree and the addition of glycerin, after evaporation of the alcohol and assay of the tracer, the last operation is to add the vegetable glycerin to ensure standardization products. The S.I.P.F.  is a manufacturing process that has the particularity of preserving all of the constituents as they were in the native state in the fresh plant (same for the E.P.S. ). This...
