What is Docteur Valnet Rosewood Organic Essential Oil used for?

Rosewood essential oil has antibacterial, antiviral and immune-stimulating properties. It is antifungal and antiparasitic. It is an anti-stress and emotional regulator. This essential oil is mildly analgesic and regenerates the skin and mucous membranes.

Rosewood (lauraceae family) is a large tree from the Amazon rainforest harvested for its essential oil, which contains 70-80% linalool, a component responsible for its exceptional regenerative properties. Rosewood has been overexploited, in particular for its use in perfumery, and has now become a protected species. Our rosewood essential oil comes from logging operations where the trees are systematically replanted.

Rosewood (aniba rosaedora) essential oil has antibacterial, antiviral and immune-stimulating properties. It is also antifungal, antiparasitic, aphrodisiac and sexual tonic. In addition, it is said to have an anti-stress, emotional-regulating and slightly analgesic action, as well as a mucocutaneous regenerative action.

Rosewood essential oil, scientifically known as Aniba rosaeodora, is highly prized for its high linalool content, an organic compound that gives it a multitude of therapeutic and pharmacological properties:

  • Antispasmodic properties: linalool acts by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, thereby reducing muscle spasms. It influences calcium channels at neuromuscular level, reducing striated muscle contraction and producing local anesthesia.
  • Analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties: linalool binds to various receptors such as muscarinic, opioid and dopaminergic receptors, generating analgesic activity similar to that of opioids. It also affects NMDA and glutamate receptors, helping to reduce inflammation, notably by reducing carrageenan-induced edema.
  • Antimicrobial and antiparasitic properties: The oil demonstrates significant antibacterial activity against many pathogens, including Campylobacter jejuni, E. coli, Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus. Although less effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, it remains active against Giardia lamblia, Leishmania amazonensis, and lice. Its antifungal action is particularly effective against Candida strains resistant to standard treatments, and its antiviral effect is notable against Adenovirus-2.
  • Skin properties: Rosewood oil is widely used for its beneficial effects on the skin; it has regenerative properties and is considered an effective anti-aging agent for its firming effects and ability to improve skin elasticity.
  • Effects on the central nervous system: Linalool has sedative, stimulating and anticonvulsant properties. It stimulates learning and memory by interacting with nicotinic receptors, and sedates by reducing motor activity. Its anticonvulsant effect is attributed to reduced glutamate release and its interaction with NMDA receptors.

In addition to its role in lymphatic drainage, Rosewood essential oil is known for its immune-stimulating action, aphrodisiac and sexual tonic effects, as well as its anti-stress and emotional properties. It is also recognized for its hypotensive, sedative, calming and anxiolytic effects. Its antioxidant and anti-tumor properties, and its ability to induce apoptosis via stimulation of various cytokines, are of great interest in pharmacological research. Finally, it is attractive to pollinators, which can have positive ecological implications.

These diverse effects make Rosewood essential oil a compound with multiple applications in aromatherapy and alternative medicine, promoting growing interest in its clinical and therapeutic use.

We also offerMandarin essential oil from the specialist aromatherapy laboratory Dr Valnet, at the best price in our online pharmacy.

What are the precautions for use?

  • Not recommended for pregnant women
  • Caution: consult an allergist if you suffer from asthma.
  • Beware of possible gynecomastizing effects with prolonged use. Linalool exhibits anti-androgenic activity and weak ostrogenic activity by binding to estrogen receptors. Linalool inhibits testosterone production. This essential oil should therefore be avoided as a long-term endocrine disruptor in males.
  • The essential oil is potentially allergenic

Rosewood essential oil, the prestigious subtly spicy floral Rosewood essential oil, the prestigious subtly spicy floral

Discovered by botanists in 1925 in the Juriti Velho region (States of Para), this tree was named "rosewood" because of the delicately scent of its wood . The study of this tree revealed that it contained an essential oil of an exceptional richness in linalool , an odorous substance precursor of the perfume of lavender. A thriving extractive industry developed in the Amazon basin to supply the perfume…
