Description of the drug Bébégel

This medication is a single use gel. It is recommended in certain constipations and as preparation for certain exams (rectoscopy).

Occasional constipation :

It may be related to a recent change in lifestyle (travel). The drug can be an aid in short treatment. Any recent constipation unexplained by the change in the mode of ive, any constipation accompanied by pain, fever, swelling of the belly must seek the advice of the doctor.

Chronic constipation (long-term constipation):

It can be linked to two causes:

  • either a disease of the intestine which requires treatment by the doctor,
  • or an imbalance of the intestinal function due to eating habits and lifestyle.

The treatment includes among others :

  • an increase in food intake of products of plant origin (green vegetables, raw vegetables, wholemeal bread, fruits.)
  • increased consumption of water and fruit juice
  • increased physical activity (sports, walking.)
  • re-education of the defecation reflex,
  • sometimes adding bran to food.

Dosage of the drug Bébégel

The cannula can be lubricated to facilitate introduction.

  • Adults and children over 6 years old: 1 dose 5 to 30 minutes before the time chosen to have a bowel movement, to be repeated 1 time within half an hour or the following hour in case of rebellious constipation
  • Children from 2 to 6 years old: 1 dose 5 to 30 minutes before the chosen time to have a bowel movement.
  • Infants: Consult your doctor.

The active substance of the drug Bébégel is :
Glycerol 3,900 g
For a single-dose container

The other components are :
Gelatin, drinking water.

Never use BEBEGEL, rectal gel in a single-dose container in the following case:

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substance or to any of the other ingredients of BEBEGEL, rectal gel single-dose container.

Special case of the child : In children, the treatment of constipation is based on lifestyle and dietetic measures: in particular using the right amount of water with infant milk powders, a diet rich in vegetable products, addition of fruit juice.

Treatment with a rectal laxative without medical advice is contraindicated (regular use can hinder the normal functioning of the defecation reflex).

Precautions for use

To avoid possible interactions with other medicines, you should systematically report this treatment to your doctor or pharmacist. It is best to avoid the use of this medication in cases of hemorrhoidal flare, anal fissure or ulcerative colitis.

INDICATIONS (summary)
It is a laxative administered by way rectally. It triggers a contraction of the rectum which allows the evacuation of the stool.
It is used in the treatment of constipation, especially when stools accumulate in the rectum and the repeated pushes do not allow to evacuate them. It is also used to prepare the rectum before an endoscopic examination (rectoscopy).
WARNING (Contents)
Laxatives administered by way rectal should not be used without medical advice prolonged: they may prevent the normal reflex expulsion of stool.
Precautions are necessary in the person with hemorrhoids , anal fissure or ulcerative colitis .
PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING (summary)
This medication may be used on an ad hoc basis to treat constipation of pregnant or nursing women.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE (summary)
Remove the cap, insert the cannula into the rectum and empty the contents of the single-dose container by pressure. The cannula can be lubricated to facilitate insertion.
The unidose should be administered 5 to 30 minutes before the chosen time for the saddle.

Usual dosage:

  • Adult and child over 6 years: 1 unidose, to be renewed 1 hour later in case of constipation rebel.
  • Child 2 to 6 years: 1 unit per day.
  • Infant: 1 unit per day, 2 days out of 3.

The treatment of constipation is essentially based on hygiene measures: high-fiber food, abundant drinks, regular physical activity and time to get to the saddle.
