Description of Importal 10 g 20 sachets

Note:

  • Constipation
  • Hepatic encephalopathy
  • Palliative care

Constipation is manifested by difficulty in passing stools that are often small and hard. But there is no need to have a bowel movement necessarily every day. We talk about constipation when we have a bowel movement less than three times a week.

Hepatic encephalopathy

Substances absorbed in the intestine pass into the circulation through the liver, where toxins are normally eliminated. Many toxins (like ammonia) are normal waste products of protein digestion. In hepatic encephalopathy, toxins are not eliminated because liver function is impaired . Additionally, some toxins can completely bypass the liver through abnormal connections (called collateral vessels) that form between the portal venous system (which carries blood to the liver) and the systemic circulation. These vessels form as a result of liver disease and portal hypertension.

A procedure used to treat portal hypertension (called a portosystemic shunt) can also allow toxins to bypass the liver. Whatever the cause, the prognosis is the same. Toxins can reach the brain and alter its functioning.
