Description of EDUCTYL Adult effervescent suppository B / 12

Indication:

  • Low constipation (INDICATION)
  • Preparation of the rectum for endoscopic or radiological examinations (INDICATION)
  • Constipation (INDICATION_GROUP)
  • Preparation for digestive endoscopies (INDICATION_GROUP)
  • Palliative care (INDICATION_GROUP)

The causes of constipation are multiple and most often not serious. And, fortunately, simple lifestyle measures are often very effective in dealing with this very feminine condition.
Some constipation is caused by a slowdown in the progression of food along the colon (large intestine). In others, there are difficulties in evacuating stool from the rectum (terminal part of the colon) and anus ("terminal constipation").

Terminal or distal constipation is defined by an anorectal dysfunction responsible for difficulties in removing materials. It can result in several symptoms grouped together in the Rome III criteria under the term functional constipation. These are abdominal thrusting efforts to defecate, issuing hard and split stools, feeling of incomplete defecation, feeling of obstruction, blocking of stools in the anal canal, need to perform maneuvers of '' digital evacuation. Terminal constipation is very common, affecting 13% to 20% of the general French population.

Therapeutic indications

This medication is a rectal laxative. It acts by triggering the defecation reflex.

This medication is recommended in certain constipations and as preparation for certain examinations of the rectum (rectoscopy).

Do not use EDUCTYL ADULTS, effervescent suppository in the following cases:

· Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the components.

Occasional constipation:

It may be related to a recent change in lifestyle (travel). The drug may be an aid in short treatment. Any recent constipation unexplained by the change in lifestyle, constipation accompanied by pain, fever, swelling of the abdomen must make seek the opinion of the doctor.

Chronic constipation (long-term constipation):

It can be linked to two causes:

· a disease of the intestine that requires treatment by the physician,

· or an imbalance in intestinal function due to dietary habits and lifestyle.

Treatment includes:

· an increase in dietary intakes of products of vegetable origin (green vegetables, raw vegetables, wholemeal bread, fruits ...)

· an increase in the consumption of water and fruit juices

· an increase in physical activities (sports, walking ...)

· rehabilitation of defecation reflex

· sometimes, the addition of sound to food

It is helpful to seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions for use

In case of anal fissure, ask your doctor for advice.

INDICATIONS (summary)
It is a laxative administered by way rectally. It causes rapid evacuation of the stool by increasing the pressure in the rectum.
It is used in the treatment of constipation, especially when stools accumulate in the rectum and the repeated pushes do not allow to evacuate them. It is also used to prepare the rectum before an endoscopic examination (rectoscopy).
CONTRAINDICATIONS (summary)
This medication should not be used in cases of abdominal pain of unknown cause or inflammatory bowel disease.
WARNING (Contents)
Laxatives administered by way rectal should not be used without medical advice prolonged: they may prevent the normal reflex expulsion of stool.
Precautions are necessary in the person with hemorrhoids , anal fissure or ulcerative colitis .
PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING (summary)
This medication may be used on an ad hoc basis to treat constipation of pregnant or nursing women.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE (summary)
The suppository should be placed a few minutes before the time chosen for the saddle. The effect of this laxative may occur in less than 10 minutes.

Usual dosage:

  • Adult: 1 adult per day suppository.
  • Child: 1 suppository Child per day.
