This medicine contains an osmotic laxative . It retains water in the intestine and causes diarrhea that empties the digestive tract.
It is used to purge the bowel before surgery or endoscopic (colonoscopy) or radiological examination (barium enema).
This treatment should not be used in the following cases:
  • disease responsible for a state of extreme fatigue,
  • serious illness, responsible for fragility or obstruction of the intestine,
  • child under 15 years of age.
WARNING (Contents)
In the elderly or frail elderly, it is sometimes preferable to carry out the preparation of the intestine in the hospital or in the clinic the day before the examination.
Diarrhea caused by the administration of this preparation may decrease the absorption of many drugs. Ask your doctor for advice if you are following another treatment: a delay in the catch schedule may be necessary.
This medicine contains only presumed safe substances during pregnancy or lactation.
Pour the powder from a sachet into the cup and top up with water to the scale indicating 1 liter.
The solution should be stirred until the powder is completely dissolved.

Usual dosage:

  • Adult: on average 3 to 4 liters of reconstituted solution, to drink:
    • or in one dose, in the evening preceding the examination, at the rate of 250 ml (one glass) every 10 minutes;
    • 2 times, 2 liters the night before and 2 liters the morning before the examination. In this case, the last catch must take place at least 3 hours before the examination.

This medication allows a colonic lavage to ensure the preparation of the patients before the endoscopic or radiological explorations or the colonic surgery.

2. BEFORE YOU TAKE COLOPEG, powder for oral solution?

Never use COLOPEG powder for oral solution in the following cases:

· Allergy (hypersensitivity) to any of the ingredients of this medication listed under "Additional Information";

· Severe changes in the general condition such as dehydration or severe heart failure;

· Serious bowel involvement leading to excessive mucosal fragility;

· Patients with intestinal ileus or occlusion;

· Children under 15 years of age;

· Digestive perforation or risk of perforation;

Precautions for use; special warnings

Take special care with COLOPEG powder for oral solution:

· In the elderly in general precarious condition, it is recommended to administer the product only under medical supervision.

· Diarrhea resulting from the use of this medication can severely disrupt the absorption of drugs administered concomitantly.

· This medicine contains polyethylene glycol. Very rare allergic manifestations (rash, urticaria, edema) have been reported with products containing polyethylene glycol. Exceptional cases of anaphylactic shock have been reported.

· Although not expected due to the isotonic composition of the product, cases of hydroelectrolytic disorders have been reported exceptionally in patients at risk. Also, the product should be used with caution in patients prone to hydroelectrolyte disorders (disorders of balance between water and mineral salts of the body), such as patients with renal insufficiency, heart failure , or treated with diuretic drugs.

· The product should be administered with caution and under close supervision in patients with regurgitation (upset stomach contents in the mouth), bedridden patients with impaired neurological function and / or motor disturbances due to risk of inhalation. In these patients, the product should be given in a seated position, possibly by gastric tube.

· In patients with renal insufficiency and / or heart failure, large amounts of fluid may increase the risk of acute lung edema (a severe lung disease characterized by the presence of fluid in the alveoli of the lungs) .

3. HOW TO TAKE COLOPEG Powder for oral solution?

The average dosage is 3 to 4 liters of reconstituted solution.

Dissolve the contents of the sachet in one liter of water. The can is used to prepare the solution. Shake until powder dissolves completely.
