Advice from your expert pharmacist for stress and palpitations

Treatment of Heart Disorders and Nervous Tensions

Often, it is stressful life events, such as separation, dismissal or grieving, that can trigger nervous heart problems. However, everyday situations of professional and private life generating persistent stress can also, especially in sensitive individuals, be the cause of the appearance of symptoms such as irregular heartbeat, palpitations, feelings of tightness, dizziness, trouble sleeping, or general restlessness and nervousness. It is not uncommon for people with nervous heart problems to take these symptoms so seriously that they even feel like they are having a heart attack. Going over your worries only worsens the conflict situation; affected people then find themselves in a whirlwind of anxiety and depressed mood, and they have difficulty returning to a state of normal balance.

Tips for regaining nervous serenity

  • Adopt a healthy and balanced diet
  • Regularly play (endurance) sport, and above all: practice outdoor physical activity
  • Try meditation / autogenic training / progressive muscle relaxation
  • Losing weight if you are overweight
  • Do not consume alcohol or cigarettes
  • Maintain social ties, take an active part in life, indulge in hobbies
  • Seek professional psychological help (cognitive behavioral therapy)
  • Ensure a good work-life balance
