Our advice and expert opinions

Sprains, strains and bruises: what's the difference?

In your daily life, you're never safe from painful trauma. Sprains, strains and contusions are very common pathologies and can be the cause of pain, so get to know them.

  • A sprain is an injury to the ligaments that occurs when you twist your ankle, knee, finger, etc. This injury can be more or less serious: it can be a stretching, a partial or complete rupture or a tearing of the ligaments.
  • A sprain, on the other hand, is a benign injury. A sprain is simply distension without tearing or tearing of the ligaments.
  • Musclecontusion refers to an injury caused by a direct impact without skin damage. This injury may take the form of a lesion of the muscle envelope, an intramuscular haematoma or a tear in the muscle fibres.
