Essential oils are not soluble in water. Without dispersant, they can not be integrated in exclusively aqueous formulas, such as gels and lotions. Nor can they be dissolved directly in water as a carrier for internal use or for creating aromatic drinks.
Dispersants are mixtures having the property of dispersing homogeneously in water non-water soluble liquid substances, such as essential oils.
It is not a true homogeneous "solution", but a dispersion in the form of very fine droplets of essential oil which are suspended in a relatively stable manner in the medium term or in the long term. The resulting mixture will be cloudy or milky.
Dispersants thus make it possible to "solubilize" essential oils in aqueous gels and lotions, but also to create aromatic drinks.
