Composition of Capstar tablets for small dogs

Nitenpyram 11.4 mg
Excipient QSP 1 tablet of 100 mg

Precaution of use

The fact of no longer finding live fleas in the animal's coat does not necessarily mean that there are no more. In the presence of a limited number of chips, these can be difficult to see.

During the first hour after administration, more intense itching may occur in the host animal. This is due to the reaction of the chips to the product.
In very rare cases, in cats this may manifest as transient signs of hyperactivity.

Nitenpyram can be given to pregnant or lactating females.
Studies in laboratory animals (rats and rabbits) have not produced any evidence of teratogenic or foetotoxic effects. The safety of the product has been demonstrated in pregnant or lactating cats and bitches.

What are the properties of the asset contained in Capstar?

Nitenpyram is an active substance that belongs to the class of neonicotinoids. It binds to insect-specific nicotinic-type cholinergic receptors by inhibiting them. It interrupts nerve conduction in the adult flea, resulting in its death. Nitenpyram does not inhibit acetylcholinesterase.
The effect on fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) is visible 15 to 30 minutes after administration to the host animal. This coincides with the first blood meal of the fleas, when the effective blood concentration of the drug is reached. Efficacy against fleas is 95-100% within 6 hours of administration and 100% within 24 hours with no residual activity.
