Description of Folic Acid CCD 0.4 mg 30 Tablets

Folic acid CCD 0.4 mg 30 Tablets is a medicine that contains folic acid (vitamin B9) , essential for metabolism. Folic acid deficiency is responsible for certain forms of anemia . This vitamin has also shown interest, when taken before and during the onset of pregnancy, in the prevention of a serious abnormality in the development of the nervous system of the embryo .
It is used :

  • in expectant mothers to prevent a rare malformation (spina bifida) of the unborn child;
  • in case of folic acid deficiency

What is folic acid ?
Vitamin B9, also called folates (a form found naturally in food) or folic acid (a form synthesized in food supplements) is a water-soluble vitamin (soluble in water). It participates in many functions of our body, and more particularly in the production of genetic material (DNA in particular), cell division, the formation of red blood cells, the functioning of the nervous system and the immune system. Indispensable for the production of new cells, it is therefore particularly important during pregnancy.

Spina bifida is defined by the absence of posterior closure of the bone channel (spine) in which the spinal cord is located. The cause is unknown but there is a family predisposition. Treatment will depend on the severity of the disease. Prevention is based on taking folic acid before and at the start of pregnancy.

LEXICON (summary)

anemias
Decreased hemoglobin level in the blood, which most often results in a decrease in the number of red blood cells. Iron is essential for the synthesis of hemoglobin. Iron deficiency during pregnancy, vegetarian diet, heavy or repeated bleeding (menstruation) is a common cause of anemia. Other, rarer causes are related to vitamin B deficiencies.

shortcomings
Deficiency usually related to nutrients, vitamins, minerals, etc. A diversified diet is the best prevention of deficiencies.

metabolism
The whole of the transformation actions that the organism carries out, resulting in the creation of energy or the development of various substances. There is anabolism (manufacturing metabolism) of catabolism (degradation metabolism).

allergic reaction
Reaction due to the hypersensitivity of the body to a drug. Allergic reactions can take a variety of forms: urticaria, angioedema, eczema, rash of measles-like pimples, etc. Anaphylactic shock is a generalized allergic reaction that causes discomfort by sudden drop in blood pressure.

Digestive disorders
Set of symptoms reflecting irritation or dysfunction of the digestive tract. One or more disorders may be present: nausea, vomiting, aerophagia, abdominal pain, heartburn, bloating, flatulence, diarrhea or constipation, etc. Antibiotics can promote candidiasis, often responsible for digestive disorders.

vitamin
Substance essential for the growth and the good functioning of the organism. Vitamin requirements are normally covered by a varied diet. In developed countries, only vitamin D deficiency in young children or the elderly with little sun exposure justifies routine supplementation. An intake greater than the needs, by drugs in particular, can be at the origin of an overdose and various disorders (vitamins A and D essentially).
