MAQS BANDS FOR BEES BOX 20 strips. In bees used for the treatment of Varroa mite caused by Varroa destructor in the honey bee (Apis mellifera). Treatment of 10 hives

MAQS BANDES BEE

Indication of MAQS

In bees:
- treatment of Varroa mite caused by Varroa destructor in the honey bee (Apis mellifera).

Composition of MAQS

A 146 g band contains:
Formic acid ..... 68.2 g

treatment of 10 hives

USE and DOSAGE of MAQS

Use the product in standard hives with single or double beehives or hives of equivalent size, with a cluster of bees covering a minimum of 6 brood frames (about 10 000 bees).

1. Open and remove the 2 strips of the plastic bag.
Important: Do not remove the paper that surrounds the tapes. Indeed, this paper ensures the controlled release of formic acid.
2 bands = 1 treatment of 7 days.
2. Place two strips flat on the frame heads to cover all the frames. A space of about 5 cm should be left between each strip, and a space of about 10 cm between the outer edges of the strips and the ends of the hive body. When setting up the treatment, wear chemical resistant gloves to prevent skin contact.
Temperature: The temperature of the day of application of the treatment should be between +10 ° C and +29.5 ° C.
3. The tapes must be left on the frames for 7 days.
They are biodegradable and there is no need to remove them at the end of treatment because honeybees eliminate used strips. If removed, the strips are destroyed by composting.
Allow a minimum of one month between applications.

The parasite of the bees, the varoa destructor

Varroa destructor is a parasitic mite of the adult bee as well as larvae and nymphs. He is native to Southeast Asia, where he lives at the expense of the Asian bee Apis cerana that resists its attacks, unlike the European honey bee Apis mellifera. This parasite causes significant economic losses in beekeeping and is one of the causes of the decrease in the number of bees. Having colonized almost all areas where Apis mellifera is present, varroosis is now a global problem.

MAJOR EMPLOYMENT PRECAUTIONS

The bands can be applied during the honey flow; add the hops if a honey flow is planned, to leave enough space for the expansion of the colony. Do not disturb the colony for 7 days.
Temperatures: the maximum outside temperature must be between +10 and + 29.5 ° C on the day of application. During the first three days of treatment, temperatures above this range may cause excessive brood mortality and loss of the queen. If such temperatures coincide with a period of hunger (where food is scarce), there is a high risk of queen loss, sudden supersedure, or delayed spawning. The treatment should be postponed until the temperature drops or food is available again.
Colonies must have access to sufficient fresh air during treatment. An air inlet must be present over the entire width of the hive, usually between the hive body and the bottom tray. The entrance to the bottom of the hive must be fully open (over the entire width of the hive and a minimum height of 1.3 cm) for the duration of the treatment (7 days). Input reducers should be removed to prevent excessive damage to colonies. Minimize disturbance of colony activity during the application process.
Colonies must have good food reserves at the time of treatment and they must not be fed during treatment.
Do not destroy royal cells that can be observed before or after treatment. Supersedure, even if it is potentially initiated by treatment, is a natural process, and it is not advisable to block this process necessary for the health of the colony. Check that the colony is in possession of a queen, one month after treatment. The presence of a queen-mother and a queen-daughter is not uncommon after treatment.
Colonies are expected to extend the cluster as part of the control of vapor concentration during the first 3 days of treatment; we can see them shaving.
